1773 Silas Pepoon established a small tavern under the sign of the Red Lion.
1774 Citizens from several Berkshire towns gathered at Pepoon’s to pass resolutions protesting England’s repressive Act of Intolerance and also pledged to boycott British goods.
1848 Known as The Stockbridge House, an addition was made to greatly enlarge the Inn to provide more adequate facilities.
1862 Purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Plumb. Mrs. Plumb was an ardent collector. We can thank her for much of the fine antique furniture and china in the Inn today.
1884 New addition and entire roof raised to add a third story. The Inn was then able to accommodate 100 guests.
1891 The name of the Inn was changed from The Stockbridge House to Ye Red Lion Inn.
1893 Charles H. Plumb relinquished management of the Inn to his nephew, Allen T. Treadway.
1896 Fire destroyed the entire building, but Mrs. Plumb’s noted collection was saved.
